The organizers of Asiad 19 have announced that the Olympic teams from Syria and Afghanistan have withdrawn from the men’s football competition.
As a result, Group C in the men’s football tournament now only consists of two teams, Olympic Uzbekistan and Olympic Hong Kong (China). These two teams will play two matches against each other to determine the group winner.

Consequently, Olympic Uzbekistan and Olympic Hong Kong (China) are the first two teams to secure a spot in the Round of 16, even before the tournament begins.
Therefore, the men’s football competition at Asiad 19 consists of 21 participating teams, divided into 6 groups (4 groups of 4 teams, 1 group of 3 teams, and 1 group of 2 teams). The teams will play a round-robin format to determine their rankings. The top two teams from each group and the four best third-place teams will advance to the Round of 16.

By advancing the third-place team from 4 out of 5 groups, Olympic Vietnam only needs to defeat Olympic Mongolia in their opening match to have a good chance of qualifying for the Round of 16.
In Asiad 19, Olympic Vietnam is in Group B alongside strong opponents such as Saudi Arabia, Iran, and Mongolia.
In the opening match, coach Hoang Anh Tuan’s team will face Mongolia on September 19, followed by a match against Iran on September 21, before their final group stage match against Saudi Arabia on September 24.
